playtime

This week has been super busy! Between sanding and painting our walls and teaching piano lessons, I haven't had much time to sit down and take pictures, much less edit them or do any blogging. But here are a few quick shots we took of the boys playing this week.

This is Cayden's favorite toy! His little piano from LiLi. He plays with it all day long and comes up with the funniest dances for all the songs!

more birthday fun

Today, Daniel is taking me on a real date. Not a work party or sunday school gathering. No. An actual date. These "real" dates are few and far between at this stage in our life and I am perhaps slightly abnormally excited for the chance to be alone with my hubby for dinner and a movie.

In the meantime, I took this super sweet picture of Max on the day I got my new Canon T3i. I love this little face so much.

pics from my camera roll

This week I took some pictures of the boys with my iPhone and used my Afterglow app (which I LOVE) to edit them. I love how they turned out. The boys were being so sweet and still while I took their pictures. It was so fun. :)

This boy falls asleep on the couch nearly every other day. He is not wanting to nap anymore (boooo!), but he will just randomly fall asleep on the couch. I guess he does still need a nap, but just doesn't want to admit it. :)

These are pics of some faces Max was making when he was trying to be cute to get some chocolate. It's sad, isn't it?

This week, I came down with a pretty bad cold. Cayden tried to help me feel better. ;)

On my birthday, Max was a little dear, and placed all of his favorite cars in the only little box he could find in his room. He gave them to me as a birthday present. When I asked if I could keep them, his little countenance changed (realizing what giving them away meant), but he smiled sweetly and whispered, "Yes!" I treasure this little gift from his heart. What a sweet spirit he has.

To the right is the "surprise" Max and Cayden made for me on my birthday. :) Notice that Max was standing at the door with his gift for me. He actually yelled, "SURPRISE!" when I opened the door. So funny and cute.

When I came downstairs on the morning of my 26th birthday, I found that Daniel had bought me and the boys breakfast and had also bought me some lovely flowers. He even wrote me a sweet note. That man knows what speaks to my heart. Food and flowers. :) Here is a closeup of the flowers he bought me. All photos in this post were taken with an iPhone 4.

a car in the face

Max has been a wild one the past two days. This morning, he threw one of his Hot Wheels cars across the room and hit me in the eye with it. This sort of needless injury would undeniably create anger in almost any person. But what most bothered me about the situation is that I had just instructed him not to throw his toys. His response, being the little sinner he is, was to defy his direct instructions. This got me thinking of the conversation I had with my husband only a couple weeks ago concerning matters of the heart in regards to our children.

We spoke of how our children commit all different types of wrongdoings: being too rowdy and waking a sleeping person, breaking something after being asked to settle down, speaking in a harsh or unloving tone, or pushing one another. Some wrongdoing are merely that: a wrongdoing. Perhaps not considered a sin by God, but more an annoyance to the parent (such as a broken dish). Other times, these boys commit all-out, deliberate, contemplated sins. These sins come from a heart issue and they require true, loving, CALM discipline.

This car-chunking incident undeniably stemmed from a heart issue. A desire within this little boy to rebel, to do exactly what I told him not to do, and to do it (quite literally) in my face. What was my response? By some miracle (and only by God's great grace) was I able to calmly escort him to his room for timeout until I was able to sit down with him and discuss his sin. I took the car and promised that if he shows in the coming days that he has learned not to throw things and has learned to obey the commands he receives from me, then he will receive it back. However, I feel that this little car will be dust-laden and squeaky before it is moved from its current hiding place.

In the meantime, how cute is he learning his first letter?

looking back at 2012

This year has not been easy for our family. It has been long, stressful, and at times I may have even uttered inaudibly to myself that circumstances were more than I could bear. But the Lord has brought us out of that year and into a new one - a change that I gratefully accept. But looking back, I see how the Lord has provided for us in every facet of our lives. We never were left wanting, and never felt as though we were outside His reach, and for that I am thankful.

Here are my favorite snapshots of my precious boys for the year 2012. This is the hard part about moving on to a new year - knowing these boys will never be this small again. However, I know there are many more wonderful memories to be made in 2013. :)

a new year, a new look

Since today is the first day of 2013, I decided to give my blog a facelift! I also really want to try to post more this year and keep this blog up to date! My husband bought me this lovely Canon Rebel T3i as a birthday present, so I'm thinking that will help motivate me. :)

May Happenings

This month has been a little trying for our little family. The boys have had a sickness for a week that they just can't beat; and today, Daniel and I have come down with it. Hopefully, it will be short-lived and we will all be well by Cayden's first birthday party at the park on Saturday! I am so excited to celebrate this little one's life and so grateful to the Lord that he has given us such a wonderful first year with this little guy! I'll post a bunch of pictures of his first year very soon. In the meantime, here are some snapshots from my iPhone...

Max loves to carry my old Barbie car everywhere. He is obsessed with cars and since this is the biggest car he can get his hands on, it is by far the coolest.

I am making some cupcake toppers for Cayden's birthday!

Cayden's new "squat". He's pretty impressed with himself.

My sick babies eating cheerios together on the couch.

My boys think they are pretty funny. I'm so glad they like to entertain each other so much!
